Capsule Geology

The Snow 1-16 occurrence is located approximately 12.5 kilometres north of Chukachida Lake on an unnamed tributary of the Chukachida River.

Regionally, the area lies on the western edge of the Omineca Belt near the Kutcho fault, marking the boundary with rocks of the Intermontane Belt. The area is underlain by Early Jurassic granodioritic intrusive rocks of the Pitman Batholith with minor roof pendants of metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks. Early regional mapping correlated these rocks with the Devonian to Permian Asitka Group based on lithological similarities (Geological Survey of Canada Open File 483). Fossil evidence from later regional mapping dates least part of the sequence as Mississippian (Geological Survey of Canada Paper 80-1B, pages 207-211). A tentative age of Devonian to Permian is given to these metamorphic rocks. The intrusives consist mainly of diorite, microdiorite, quartz-diorite and microdiorite with lesser amounts of gabbro and pyroxenite. Diabase and basaltic xenoliths are common in all the intrusive phases.

Locally, an area of pyritization occurs in diorite over approximately 390 by 120 metres. The mineralization comprises up to 5 per cent by volume of the hostrock and is confined to small hairline fractures and weak disseminations throughout. Minor malachite staining is also noted. Alteration of hornblende to biotite and weak kaolinization occurs within the zone. Float samples from the area contain semi-massive pyrite with possibly lesser amounts of pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite.

In 1973, a grab sample across a gossanous zone yielded 0.01 per cent copper and 0.0002 per cent molybdenum (Property File - Burgoyne, A.A. (1974-01-12): Report on Snow 1-16 Claims).

In 2006, float samples (06B-72R and 06B-73R) yielded values up to 0.118 per cent copper and 0.006 per cent cobalt (Assessment Report 29117).

In 2018, a float sample (H427535) with disseminated pyrite and magnetite and an unidentified copper-coloured mineral, possibly native silver, assayed 0.222 per cent copper and 0.012 per cent cobalt (Assessment Report 38093). The sample was taken from a northeast-trending valley located approximately 6.5 kilometres to the northeast.

Work History

In 1973 and 1974, Union Miniere Explorations and Mining Corp. Ltd. completed an exploration program of detailed geological mapping, prospecting and rock geochemistry.

In 2004, Amarc Resources Ltd. prospected and sampled the area as the Cop claims. In 2005, Hard Creek Nickel Corp. completed a program of rock and silt sampling and satellite imagery analysis on the area as the Cop and Westcop claims. In 2006, Rimfire Minerals Corp. prospected and sampled the area.

In 2018, Silver Grail Resources Ltd. completed a program of rock and silt sampling on the area to the northeast as the Kobold property.
